_The tutorial objectives as they appear at the top right on the first evening (recordings of 2–7 November)._

**Short answer:** the first evening is a tutorial. Do the objectives shown at the top right of the screen in order: watch the TV, lock the front door, fill the cleaning bucket in the bathtub, put it on the metal water rack, gather the apartment’s food into the pantry, find a screwdriver, then lock up and pick a place to sleep. Someone will knock before you sleep; open on the chain, not wide.

You start on the **30th floor of Bellwether Heights** on the last normal evening before the outbreak. The game does not move on until each objective is done, so the fastest first day is simply the objective list in order, with a few habits added that pay off from day 2.

## The day 0 objectives, in order

| # | Objective (as the game words it) | What to do |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 1 | Check the TV | A news report from the intersection outside Bellwether Heights shows the first attack. An emergency alert follows: remain indoors, lock all doors and windows. |
| 2 | Lock the entrance | Walk to the front door and choose **Lock**. Close the curtains or blinds while you are there. |
| 3 | Fill the bucket | Take the **cleaning bucket** from under the sink, place it in the bathtub, turn the tap on and let it fill to the top. |
| 4 | Store the filled bucket | Pull the bathtub plug to free the bucket, then place it on the **metal water rack**. |
| 5 | Gather the apartment’s food | Check the kitchen cabinets and the fridge: crackers, eggs, leftovers, rice and canned food. Carry each item to the **pantry** shelf. |
| 6 | Find a screwdriver | It is somewhere in the apartment; players found it in drawers and on surfaces, not in a fixed spot. |
| 7 | Lock up for the night | Double-check the door, choose a sleeping place, eat a portion and sleep. |

Recordings from 2 to 7 November show the same order; the screwdriver step sometimes appears earlier.

## Habits that save the run later

- **Fill more than the objective asks.** The bucket objective only needs one bucket, but the taps stop within the first days. Every extra bucket and bottle filled on day 0 is water you do not have to find later. See the [water guide](https://30floorsupguide.wiki/survival/water/).

- **Read the survival book.** The building emergency guide on the shelf lists the house rules: store water before the taps stop, count tomorrow’s food before eating extra, listen before opening a door, and keep noise down (running, dropped metal and dragged furniture all carry).

- **Pick up a weapon now.** A baseball bat, frying pan, hammer, knife and rolling pin are all in or around the starting apartment. The bat is the one most guides keep ([weapons](https://30floorsupguide.wiki/items/weapons/)).

- **Think before emptying the fridge.** One guide maker leaves fridge food in the fridge so it stays cold. Food does spoil in this game (players have found crackers marked “not safe to eat”), but whether the fridge slows it after the power cut has not been shown.

## Who knocks on the first night?

Before you sleep, **Daniel from next door** knocks: his own door will not catch. Look through the peephole, then **hook the chain** before opening so the door only opens a crack. Whether to let him in is the first real choice of the game; the [Daniel page](https://30floorsupguide.wiki/neighbors/daniel/) lists what each answer leads to.

## What happens after day 0?

The tutorial ends, but the building keeps sending objectives:

- **Day 1:** neighbors leave while the lift still runs. Ruth tells you the box on her dining table is yours; another group asks you to carry a blue gym bag to the pile by the lift. Doing these gets you their leftovers.

- **Day 2:** the objective “fill all containers before the taps run dry” appears, followed by a building notice that water and power will be cut.

- **Days 2 to 4:** the power goes (one co-op group saw it on day 3), the lifts stop and nights turn pitch black. See [power cut and breaker](https://30floorsupguide.wiki/building/power-and-breaker/).

- **From then on:** objectives come from neighbors who tap on pipes or ask for help, and from the doors and vents you can open with the tools you find.

A full day-by-day table would be guesswork: when things happen depends on your choices, and the recordings disagree by a day here and there. The order above is what every recording shared.

## What is in your starting apartment?

Before the first knock, it pays to know what the apartment already holds, because you will not get a calmer moment to search it:

| Where | What players found |
| --- | --- |
| Living room | The TV, a building intercom, a desk and couch you can push, the building map guide (hold E for the floor 30 map) |
| Main room toolbox | A screwdriver, a hammer and nails (no wrench); one walkthrough also takes the triangular key from it |
| Kitchen | Crackers, eggs, rice, canned food, fridge leftovers; a knife and other utensils in the drawers |
| Bathroom | The bathtub (hot or cold water) and the cleaning bucket under the sink |
| Around the flat | A jerry can, empty bottles, a flashlight, a box of medical supplies, the survival book |

One player’s tip: lay all your food out in one place before storing it, so you can see what you actually have.

## Day 0 mistakes we saw in recordings

- **Blocking your own door.** A co-op group pushed a table into the doorway on the first night and could not move it again, which cost them the run a few days later.

- **One bucket only.** Players who stopped after the objective’s single bucket were drinking from empty containers by the time the taps ran dry.

- **Opening without the chain.** The chain exists for the first knock; guides open on the chain and talk first.

- **Forgetting to eat.** The game reminds you to eat a portion before bed. A co-op player who skipped food and water started losing health.
